Tips to help your back pain
We will all experience back pain at some stage in our lives. Today's work practices and busy schedules mean that back pain is an increasingly common complaint. There are things you can do to help minimise the chances of getting back pain or limiting its effect on your life.
Limit the amount of time you spend sitting throughout the day. This will help to prevent the shortening and tightening of your muscles. Chiropractors help assess which muscles are tight and design a customised stretching program to suit your body.
Get some regular exercise. Exercise is one of the best ways to self-release tension that has built up in your joints. Chiropractic can help choose which form of exercise would suit you best based on an assessment. For example, cycling would not be the optimum exercise for somebody who has brittle bones (osteoporosis), they need something which is more weight bearing to promote new bone formation, walking or light weight training may be a much better option.
Manage your stress levels. When we are stressed our body releases cortisol, “the stress hormone”. This causes us to hold a lot of tension in our muscles and can lead to headache, back pain, neck and shoulder pain. Talk with your chiropractor to see what will work for you to manage your stress levels. These can range from Yoga, meditation to genital exercise and we have very simple ways of checking what works for you.
Chiropractors are trained to assess your joints, nerves and muscles to see how they are functioning. They also try to address some lifestyle issue which may affect how your body is performing.
